Devils at Panthers — 1/15/2011

The Devils look for a three-game win streak tonight against the other Florida team, the Panthers.  In the NY Tri-state area, you can find the game on MSG Plus 2 or Bloomberg 1130 AM radio. The puck drops  at 7 pm eastern time.

Okay. Numbers. I’m supposed to speak using the numbers, right? In the last 10, our Devils are 3-7-0, while not great, it’s improvement over other “last tens” we’ve seen this season.  The Cats are 5-3-2.  Devs are 12-29-2 this season while the Panthers are 20-20-2.  our power play is 14.3% compared to Florida’s 10.3%, so lets hope for a fair amount of power plays.  The previous for meetings have been split, with the Devils and Panthers alternating wins.  Each time, the winning team won by one point or two points.  The game on 1/20/2010 (almost a year ago)  was a shutout, with the Devils winning by two. I think that should cover it for the numbers/stats.  With these numbers alone, our chances seem pretty good.  This is the first of four meetings this season.

We have the same injured list: Parise, Salvador, and Taormina.  I’ve heard Volchenkov has made it back to the States (with some trouble?) but the Devil’s pre-game report says he hasn’t rejoined the team, so we are left to assume that he is in Jersey…somewhere.  Florida forwards Bitz (IR), Higgins (day-to-day), and Cullen (IR).

Scottie Clemenson will be in goal for Florida, but we haven’t heard if the Moose or Brodeur will be in goal. We should find out around 5 though. Clemenson played the Devils (somwheres in the organization) for most of this past decade.  His last Devs season 08-09, he played 40 games, winning 25 of them.  This season he has played 13 games, winning 4.  The long and short of it is, he is the second best goalie in Devils history.

Unfortunetaly, I will not be watching the game.  That is happening way to often this season, because the Marist Band likes to schedule rehearsals on game times, at game time.  But today, I’m going into Newark for dinner with family and sister’s friend.  It’s my last night in town.  I’m leaving for Marist on Sunday for my last semester.

Let’s dominate the state of Florida. LET’S GO DEVILS
